Casa Nuvem

Nuvem (The cloud)

Casa Nuvem is an autonomous agitation space resulting of the convergence between art, activism, sound, audio-visual and new technologies experimentation.
Nuvem is a place of work, research and production of a contemporary thinking. A place for encounters, experiences and affectivity. Casa Nuvem was born out of this confluence of different independent creative projects guided by a festive occupation of the city and the dialogue and between art and politics (and other junctions). It is now a space open to different groups and actors that have in common the desire to think and built collectively new ways to relate between themselves, with the city and its common spaces. Nowadays Nuvem hosts several collaborative projects focused on the creation of new exchanges between people and the public space, in a network of interactions that values above all the respect towards differences, respect for freedom of expression, freedom of the body, multiplicity of gender, the right to the city and alternative mobility.
We keep our doors and hearts open.

Casa (The house)

In Casa Nuvem there are different spaces for working and gathering, plus a kitchen and a bar. There is a workshop for bike maintenance and repair, a studio of electro-acoustics and a photography lab. The house also hosts another studio for production, mixing and finalisation of sound and it is the headquarters for a bike messengers express delivery start up company.

What happens in the house?

In Casa Nuvem public events take place regularly. Every Wednesday Triciclo is held, a bike DIY maintenance workshop, where people organize around knowledge exchange and activism on two wells. On Thursdays is time for the Atelier Dissidências Criativas (Creative Dissidents Atelier), a meeting ground for art and politic action, focused on the exchange of information and the collective development and construction of urban interventions and planning of alternative ways of protesting. There are also the monthly meetings of Nuvem Hub, a laboratory for creation of prototypes related to light integration, sound systems and recyclable objects incorporated in to bikes.
Besides all these, we promote various and differentiated one-off events, such as lectures, discussions, workshops, film screenings and collective shows of music and performing arts.
Sometimes we do parties.

Who we are?

We are a cloud of people who inhabits different areas os Rio de Janeiro, joint together by the same desire to invent new forms, codes and rhythms of living and conviviality. The Casa nuvem prizes the diversity and its configuration is a reflex of that. At the moment we are 30 people dedicated to art and culture, always keeping doors opened to those interested in joining forces with us.

What connects us?

In Nuvem we believe in the recovery of communitarian bonds of solidarity, justice and a common sense that were taken away from us by the dictatorship of capital.
Here there are no truths or straight lines. We are network, flux and luxury. Our only certainty is the urgency to create autonomous resilience spaces that confront the common sequestration in this city without mercy (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil).
We want to share techniques, knowledge and fluids. We are alive network and open source. Our economy is the abundance because there are tits for all. We are practitioners of affectivism and believe int the power of indiscriminate affection as a political tool of contamination. In this disorientation of ours, all devigayted is welcome. Sexist, racist, sectarian or elitist attitudes have no place under our roof. Here VIP’s are
the ones who Visit to Invest in the Parade. And there is no greater investment than the exchange.

BOTA NA RODA is an artist collective and a party with art.

KAFKAMACHINE is an organizational experiment on cooperations to come. Its beginning is in the notes written by Félix Guattari in the 1980’s and published recently under a name Projet pour un film de Kafka.

The idea of Guattari’s unrealized project plan was to make a film not about Kafka but ”written by” Kafka. Guattari thought that Kafka was nothing less than the future. For him Kafka was not a 19th century writer prisoned in dark family relations and guilt, loneliness, submission to law, anguish of modern man… but a writer of future who was able to deal with seeds of problems and openings which are only today starting to talk to us.

KAFKAMACHINE / “MÁQUINAKAFKA” is a project taking place in the midst of the marvels of financial economy and crises of Europe, when the precariousness of immaterial labour defines our every day, semiocapitalism exercises its arbitrary power and forces us to continuously exploit ourselves and our friends while cynicism, depression and detachment form others have become important means of one’s survival.

The three working groups of KAFKAMACHINE have been Mollecular Organization (Helsinki), Ueinzz Theater Company (Sao Paulo) and Presque Ruines (Paris). Mollecular organization describes itself as a group of losers, sad figures, dark souls, cynical opportunists and depressed princesses. ”We are not tough or heroic, we are soft and feeble. We don’t march or demonstrate. We have difficulties in getting up from the bed. More, we are dependent on each other to see this softness. We are molle people, the future of cooperation.”

There may be some self-sarcasism in the introduction, but only to express that there is no heroism in the exhaustion and disillusionment we are all experiencing at the moment when seeking a way forward together is necessary but without any one being able to lecture or show the way. The cognomen of the project is n-1, the one that dissappered.

This is the starting point of KAFKAMACHINE. It uses Guattari’s project plan as a organizational tool but works to lose it: the production phases presented in the plan function as a general frame for coordinating the project. Yet the visulization and directions concerning actual scenes are created anew starting from our own problems, fears, dreams and existential territories. This is the core of our project:  with Kafka it (1) maps and studies our life at the mercy of biopolitical economy and arbitrary power and (2) develops tools for cooperation and organization that are able to make our existential territory more habitable and create openings towards its future, tools for doing things together without a necessity for becoming the other or even understanding the other. KAFKAMACHINE is a metamodel, without any messianic politics. We want to build movement from analysis (map making) to experimentation (exercises of script production) to contribute to the dynamic structuring of the unfolding organization (machine). This is the machine we want to assemble. KAFKAMACHINE is a project toward future!

KAFKAMACHINE works with perhaps the highest theatrical problem, the problem of a movement which would directly touch a soul, which would be that of the soul. It looks for the possibilities of organization of a cooperation to come. It searches for a coming cooperation, a potential cooperation, a cooperation yet to come with which to connect through engaging sensibilities and production of new affects. We want to produce becomings that will summon a people with whom minor organization connects.

KAFKAMACHINE is calling you for cooperation! It is calling you today only! If you miss this opportunity, there will never be another! Anyone thinking of his or her future, your place is with us! All welcome! Anyone who wants to be an artist, step forward! We are the theatre that has a place for everyone, everyone in his or her place! If you decide to join us, we congratulate you here and now! But hurry, be sure not to miss the midnight deadline! We shut down at midnight, never to reopen! Accursed be anyone who doesn’t believe in us!

The project is an attempt of cooperation between:

Ueinzz Theatre (Sao Paulo)

Preque Ruines collective (Paris)

Mollecular Organization (Helsinki)

Mollecular Organization studies the functioning of semio-capitalism and develops soft technologies of cooperation, tools for building the impossible communities of abstract work and its performers. Kafka Machine is a collaboration between Presque Ruines in Paris, Ueinzz-theatre group in Sao Paolo and Mollecular organization in Helsinki.
